Lance thrills the home fans with a double win, team mate Dane Hellyer a close second both timesLocal hero Lance Isaacs #2 scored a double win in the Interfile Superbike races at Killarney on Saturday to firmly announce his title ambitions this year. The Capetonian was in rampant mood from the first lap of heat 1 on board his CBR1000RR , passing pole sitter Greg Gildenhuys and then controlling the race. A fine drizzle which had started falling half way through the race then grew more intense, and riders slowed down somewhat, but Isaacs held on, with team mate Dane Hellyer #77 finishing just behind him. Heat 2 was run in perfect conditions and what a thriller. Isaacs initially led, but was passed by Sheridan Morais and Hellyer, after a slow exit out of the chicane. Hellyer then made the most of his time in the lead, showing that he has lost none of his skills, despite sitting out the entire season in 2009. Lance however was not to be denied, and after relentlessly chasing his team mate in the closing laps, passed him, the pair finishing first and second 0.029 seconds apart! Dane was nonetheless pleased as punch to have sorted his bike out after a difficult season opener at Kyalami. Chris Leeson #99 also had a better outing than at Kyalami, finishing both heats tin fifth place although in the second race he suffered from cramps in his forearms which made it difficult to control clutch and brakes! In the Interfile Supersports Jacques Peskens’s #2 difficult start to the season continued. Although he temporarily led the first race in his BikeFin 600CBR, passing the bigger cc Triumph on his way to the front, Jacques was then involved in a nasty incident with Steven Odendaal on the last lap last corner. Both riders went down, as they exited the chicane with the flag in sight, with Odendaal taken to hospital with a broken pelvis. Peskens was left nursing a painful left knee and ankle, but then rode through the pain barrier to finish a creditable 9th in heat 2 from the back of the field as he had to use his spare bike. 16 year old Brent Harran #19 again showed the promise he had displayed at Kyalami with a 4th place over all finish in only his second visit to the Killarney circuit, a bad start in heat 2 left him languishing in 14th place at the end of the first lap but the young gun showed he has what it takes and quickly made his way through the field to bring home a great finishing position for the team.
