Brad Anassis made history when he became the first ever motorcycle drag racer in Africa to go into the 7 second bracket on a drag race motorcycle with no wheelie bars.

Round 5 of the Biker Lifestyle South African Drag Race Championships

Barry Henson called it 'Domination' and that's exactly what Brad Anassis did at the 5th Round of the South African Drag Race Championships held the Tarlton Raceway outside Johannesburg last week. One test run was all it took to confirm the new MP Martin Paetzold rear shock was the right direction to head in. Test day Anassis smashed the SA record first run out the trailer, this was partly due to the track being prepped for two days of testing by Graham Mini with Barry Henson at his side. Race day, Ken Compton arrived fresh from the USA (with maps from Alen Danials bike that ran a 209 mph pass a few weeks ago) and all was set for the Flamingo PTA Noord Toyota drag race team to go on a mission and to officially smash the South African PST record and win the 5th round of the series. What more can we say but dominate was the order of the day with Brad breaking the old record with every run on the day, he laid down no less that 6 consistent passes all in the 7-60's within thousands of a second of each other and in the process wining the event crowing him the 2009 SA PST Champion for a 4th year in a row with one round left in the series.

Brad Anassis "the top end of the track was not as good on race day as it was in practice and I knew we could go faster, however it's great to win a 4th PST title in a row especially knowing that the opposition put in so much effort to beat me, Gadson being here for this round and Mini bringing out Henson to assist makes this victory even sweater, thanks to my crew chief Alfie Swanepoel and the whole team for making sure we stayed at the top, and a special thanks to Piet from Flamingo and Lucas from Pretoria Noord Toyota
for getting me back to the track"

1st Round of the Biker Lifestyle South African National Drag Race series took place at the Tarlton International raceway on Sunday 22nd March. 4 time defending Pro Street Champion Brad Anassis PST #23 knew it was not going to be all his way this year. Over the festive season major rival teams of Mini and Bear Racing took this opportunity to gather valuable information from the '08 season and turn it into energy to beat Brad Anassis. They came very close with JP Bear being the fourth person to dip into the seven second bracket in PST.

Brad revealed his new colour with the '09 Busa seat configuration from Catalyst. Anassis now racing under the FLAMINGO & PTA Noord Toyota banner raced his Air Age Exhaust Systems turbo Busa into pole position. From there it was quite an easy road to the final for Anassis as he laid down four 7.7s in a row. In the final Anassis came up against JP Labuschagne making it a final to remember with Anassis taking the win by only 100th of a second.
