ANASSIS RACING PS HONDA ‘MAGIC IN EAST LONDON'

Isaacs 38
This is what it's all about!! Round 4 of the SA Interfile South African Superbike Championship at the super fast East London Raceway had everything for the spectators. Double the racing with both 1000 and 600cc motorcycles tearing up the tar around the super fast East London Race Circuit. Double the drama, excitement and tension in the pits that was visible to all. One spectator commenting on the team in the Portable Shade Honda pits prior to the first Superbike race "You can see the focus on the mechanics' faces and you really do feel the excitement building as the team gets ready to go out. It's really exciting to be around!” Anassis Racing dominated the weekend on their CBR Hondas. After three thrilling practice sessions on Friday the opposition teams knew it was going to be a tough weekend for them as PS Honda Superbike rider Lance Isaacs #38 at the top of every practice time sheet in the 1000cc Super bike class with new team mate Arushen Moodley ending the day only one second behind in 4th place. 600cc Super Sport Class saw the pair of PS CBR600 Hondas of James Egan & Jacques Peskens leading the way with lap record equalling times in practice. Unfortunately team lady riders Janine Mitchell had a bad crash coming into the stadium section in the last practice session and found herself heading to the local hospital; she was later diagnosed with light concussion and luckily came out with no broken bones, she would not line up for race day.

Qualifying, was cancelled with the track being worked on the new tar that was laid not yet dry in the morning, so the grid was determined by championship standings. This was not at all bad news for the PS Honda squad as they are all up top in the champion hunt, except Moodley this was his first race event in the '09 SA champs. Superbike saw Isaacs #38 in third but Moodley way back in 26th Position right at the back of the grid. Supersport had the team PS riders of Peskens #89 in third and Egan #81 in fifth. Anassis racing was also assisting Wayne Waterson in the Superbike Masters class.

Superbike Race #1

A moment of magic as #38 Lance Isaacs on the Anassis Racing prepared CBR 1000RR escape the pack from lap one, he never looked back and in lap two he shattered the lap record by more than half a second. The gap just stretched bigger and bigger as the race progressed with Lance ending two seconds ahead over reigning champ Morais on his Kawasaki. When the moment came it was very impressive to watch. From back of the field Moodley began passing riders one by one, his determination obvious to all, he had to work hard to bridge the gaps between packs on the long 1.6km front straight. The previous SA champion showed his strength in a competitive field by crossing the finish line in a very respectable 6th But it was tears of joy for the Portable Shade Honda team as they brought home Hondas first heat win in three years..!!

Superbike Race #2

Another demon start for the PS riders as Isaacs shot like a bullet out a gun to lead a chasing pack into the first corner, who slotted into second place into turn one but none other than new team mate Arushen Moodley on the second of the PS Honda CBR 1000's. The two team mates pulled out 10 bike lengths on the chasing pack at the end of lap one, the chasing pack could only stair as the two Anassis Racing prepared bikes disappeared into the distance. Moodley chasing hard to keep up to Isaacs in sight who was laying down some blistering fast laps but entering turn 8

Moodley 21
Moodley lost the front end in the second slowest turn on the track and crashing out of heat two. In the mean time Isaacs #38 again did not look back, he laid down consistent lap times that were point three of a second faster than anyone else on the track. Isaacs won heat two and a double victory for the day, another milestone achievement for Honda in SA. The overall margin of victory was seven seconds over second position. Lance Isaacs has now confirmed he is in the ace for 2009 championship. Watch this space.

Supersport Race #1

Egan 81
With the PS team spirits in over drive from their earlier Superbike heat win, the pumped up PS young gun #89 Honda of Peskens flew to the front of the field immediately setting the pace taking the race to the rest of the field, Peskens led for two laps when the race was red flagged after lady rider Nicole Van Asvegen came off at the exit of turn 5. It was Peskens in front with Morais chasing, the pair had a one second gap over third. In the restart Peskens showing he wasn't going to make it easy for SA Superbike champ Morais and again led the field but the long straight played into the hands of Morais as the slipstreaming effect worked in his favour, the battle for second place was eventually won by the Portable Shade PS Honda of Jacques Peskens. Team mate James Egan coming in 5th place only one second behind.

Supersport Race #2

With the young PS guns now even more pumped to bring home the trophies #81 Peskens and #89 Egan too the fight to the blistering fast Kawasaki of Sheridan Morais, Peskens lead the way for two laps when again the slipstreaming played against him, the fight for first place became a three way affair of Morais, Peskens and Alberts. The next bunch and only two seconds back was a dog fight with Egan in the mix for 4th. On lap 8 of 10 Peskens tried to go for the lead and lost front crashing out of heat two. This was a pity as he was most definitely in with a shout for victory as he set the second fastest lap time for the heat. Egan crossed the line in an extremely hard fought 4th place.

I think our riders' results showed what a determined team can achieve if they want it badly enough."

"Our CBR1000's handled the fast East London circuit absolutely perfectly, and showed awesome speed down that long fast straight. It was awesome to see Lance take his first double Superbike win. I can't say enough about this team of people at Anassis Racing"
