Rd #7 Phakisa GP Raceway - SA Interfile Superbike & Supersport Championship

#38 - Isaacs

It’s amazing how we rely on computers in the modern age, we get complacent that they will always perform.... not true and a hard lesson learned. Practice saw all the PS Honda’s running around not knowing why they were way off the pace, to cut a long story short we had a laptop failure, this was the PC that fuelled the bikes, the memory failed to allow the system to work at the normal speed. Friday evening saw the team congregating to try find out why they were so far off the pace. A common denominator emerged ‘all were down on power’ eventually the problem was resolved by Alain from Dynojet SA picked up a problem that the PC’s had multiple maps loaded on top of each other.

#21 - Moodley & #38 - Isaacs
The proof was in the pudding with the team making up the time needed to put the PS Hondas in both SuperBike and SuperSport onto the front rows. Isaacs was only 100th of a second of pole in 2th with Moodley in 5th, our SuperSport young guns of Peskens in 4th and Egan in 6th. The team was confident that they had found the problem.

Superbike

#81 - Egan

The PS Honda Racing Team claim a third & fourth at Round 7 of the SA Superbike Championship. In race one, it was the Honda PS CBR1000RR of Isaacs that got off the line first, the CBR showed great pace as Isaacs set the overall fastest lap in both heats. The racing gave enthusiasts just what they were after with some fantastic dicing taking place in the entire field, the race came down to the final turn Geldenhuis slid up the inside of Isaacs to record his maiden win by 100th of a second. 2.5 seconds back was the reigning champion Morias who had no answer to the two factory backed Honda’s. It was less than ideal start for Moodley who had to do some crafty manoeuvring to come up through the field from seventh on lap one to finish in a fine fourth place. The whole PS Honda team want to congratulate Greg Geldenhuis for his maiden heat win in the SA Superbike Category, it was great to see another Honda taking up the challenge.

#89 - Peskens
The battle raged on again throughout the race two with Isaacs having a terrible first lap which saw him come past the start finish line in a sad 10th place. He had to work hard to manoeuvre through a wild field eventually end in fifth, Moodley made the team proud by holding off the young charging Leason on the ever improving Yamaha R1 to take a fine 3rd place in heat two. Michael Shortt in his second SA National for PS Honda finished in 10th place overall.

Race 1, From the front row Peskens fought hard for second place throughout the race but on the penultimate lap he arrived into turn one with a false neutral sending him wide and off into the kitty litre ending any chance of a podium and 11th place over the line. Egan did some serious work on the extremely fast track from the second row racing the PS CBR600RR into 7th. Janine Mitchell put in some blistering laps bettering her fastest Friday lap by four seconds on race day. Race 2, Peskens showed he has what it takes bringing home the first Honda in 6th.
