Following their record breaking appearance at the UK’s Summernationals, the Portable Shade Top Fuel Bike of King Racing took the four day boat trip to the first leg of the European Championship’s Nordic swing with the team in an optimistic mood.

King Racing win European Championship
It was a case of mixed fortunes for the King Racing Top Fuel Bike team at this, the final round of the UEM European Top Fuel Bike Championship. Always a favourite as a chance to show their capabilities on familiar territory in front of their home fans, this year’s event took place in unseasonal balmy conditions and in front of a capacity crowd who witnessed some of the best Top Fuel dragbike racing in European championship history.

King Racing make history in HungaryThis season a UEM European Dragbike Championship event took place in Hungary for the first time. The venue was a former Soviet Cold War airfield nearby the village of Kunmadaras to the east of the country and close to the Romanian border. To say it was different to the usual venues the teams are familiar with is a complete understatement. In effect we arrived in another world to that we are used to.

King Racing win in the MainFollowing the sad but not wholly unexpected news that due to the current economic downturn Portable Shade would be unable to extend their primary support into the new season it seemed that the current European Top Fuel Bike champions would struggle to make sense of the budget for their 2009 race plans.

King Racing thwarted by weather Following King Racing’s win on the Portable Shade Top Fuel Bike at the first stop of the so called `Nordic Swing’, the team travelled to the back to back second and third stops at Mantorp Park in Sweden and Gardermoen in Norway with high hopes.
However, their optimism was short lived when they experienced the extremes of weather conditions at each event that put a large dent in their hope of retaining their Championship crown.
